Reflection on WordPress
With the first class session complete, I wanted to reflect on my experiences using technology and how that may or may not prepare me for this course. I find WordPress very intimidating, as it has so many different elements and ways of editing your page, posts and designing websites. I take great comfort in the fact that there was a template we were able to work off of and the categories were already set up for us.
In a previous co-op, I worked for a tourism website in Vancouver. They used WordPress for their website, giving me experience editing pages, posts, and learning how different elements on articles can be used to maximize clicks and drive traffic to other posts and pages. After this, I created my own blog using Wix as I found it’s operations more intuitive and user-friendly. I loved that Wix had many more template options that appealed to me and involved less coding than I had previously experienced with WordPress.
It makes me feel relieved that we will not have to do any coding for this course. However, I do feel pressure to choose an interesting topic to do my inquiry on so I do not get bored researching and learning about one particular thing. Using technology to learn a new skill appeals to me, especially one that I could take into the classroom. I will continue the brainstorming process and aim to select something that will help me both personally and professionally.
